Description of Unit and Proposed Lesson
Students will be working on a project where they will create their own company. During the first two week students will form into groups of 4 or 5 and being to research existing companies for their logos, purposes, and product designs. For homework, each group will update their blogs with their sketches and design ideas for their own companies. During the third to fifth weeks students will receive "flipped" lessons where they will be assigned to view and understand tutorials on Adobe programs. These programs are to assist students in digitizing their designs. This integrated lesson incorporates this section of "flipped" lessons. For the rest of the ten weeks, students will be digitizing their logos and product designs as well as coming up with ways to advertise their companies. They will eventually present their companies in a company fair that occur at the end of the semester.
Description of Purpose of the Lesson
The purpose of this integrated lesson with the tutorials is to give students more time to figure out how to use the programs. Rather than the limited amount of classroom time to teach students, it will be more beneficial for students to view the tutorials at home and follow along the steps. They are able to research resources online for additional help or additional skills. After each tutorial, students are required to demonstrate their understandings of what was taught by following exactly what was shown in the video or incorporating the skills taught into their design sketches. During class, we will review what troubles and experiences students had with the tutorials and steps in understanding the programs. Students will have the opportunity to ask their peers and teacher for additional help. They will also be able to work on digitizing their logos and product designs. Not only will students have the opportunity to try and figure out the programs ahead of time, they have enough time to fully understand what is happening.
The learning objectives for this integrated lesson are:
1) Being able to try and solve problems individually before seeking help from the teacher. This includes trial and error and research.
2) Being able to use the Adobe programs commonly used for company logo, product designs and advertisement

INtegrated Lesson
In this tutorial, students will learn the basics of Adobe Illustrator. There will be more than one tutorial video which students will need to view and follow the instructions in creating sketches to show their understanding of the tutorial and program. They will need to bring these sketches to share with the class.
Students will be able to look up other tutorials. Some examples include:

Engagement
In class, students will present their own experiences with the tutorial videos. They will need to explain whether or not they had any troubles and if yes, how they overcame those problems. They will also need to share any additional research they've found with the class so that their peers can be aware of new resources. This will allow the class to work together to overcome difficulties and help share ideas. Presentation will help each student with their public speaking skills as well as group work.
Afterwards, students will need to write a response to the previous night's homework and what was discussed in class before having the remaining class time to work on their projects. Writing about their experiences and their peers' opinions is important to the learning processes. Also, being able to work on their projects in class is beneficial because if they need help they can either ask the teacher or their peers. If they worked on their projects for the first time at home, they may not gain the confidence to put in effort.
Assessment
Students will be assessed based on their willingness to share their experiences during presentations. The sketches that they create from each video will be graded based on what is taught in the videos as well as their effort to understanding the program. Often, it is apparent whether or not students spent time in figuring out the tasks based on their sketches as well as their presentations.
I will give written feedback on each of sketches that students have as well as their responses. They will need to post their sketches onto their blogs and I will post comments onto their blogs. This way, they know how they can improve as well as know where they stand grade wise. I will not post the grades on the blogs, but on another website where the students can only see their own grades individually.
