Artmaking Steps:
- Build on prior knowledge & experience
- Introduce the concept of color and color combinations
- Explain the directions
- Pass out magazines and scissors
- Students will work on color collages – they will need at least 12 different shades and tints of the first and secondary colors (at least 3 shades/tints for each color). They will need to arrange them in order by the color gradient.
- Pass out paper and glue
- Students will work on creating an image and then color it in using their cutout colors. Students need to think about the mood that is created by the colors.
- Students will then need to write a poem about their artwork.
- Group Discussion.
Aesthetics Steps/Questions:
Step 1. Students will first answer the following questions individually.
- a) How does color play a role in your lives? In society?
- b) Why do you think the human eye developed the capability to see colors?
- c) What would the world be like if we could only see black, white, and gray tones?
- d) How can color be beneficial to people and/or animals? Or be harmful?
Step 2. Students will form groups to discuss the questions.
Step 3. All groups will convene together to have a discussion.

After Loss
By Christine Huang
Minutes pass by,
Hours pass by,
Days pass by,
But, everything still feels surreal.
I remember feeling weighed down by an invisible rock,
Torn between responsibility and dreams.
Both seemed valid and equally important.
But now, both seem unimportant.
As the months pass by,
I still find myself numb.
I know there is hope that things will get better.
But, that is only until I get used to the new normal.
Control
By Christine Huang
I can cry,
But what will that do?
I can’t change the past.
But, I know that I can change my future.
Or, can I?
Are things really controllable?
Can we prevent future mishaps?
Or, just let time flow.
And, just go with the flow.
Enjoying each moment,
Like it is the last one we will ever have.
