Teaching Philosophy
I strive to become an art educator who will motivate students to be engaged in projects that adhere to both 21st Century Skills and personal growth/expressionism. Assigning "rich" projects that incorporate multiple parts will require individual and group work. Students will be fully engaged, can assess and be assessed at each stage of the projects, work with others and individually, as well as use life skills, such as critical thinking and problem solving skills, throughout the projects. Because art is about inquiry and solution seeking, I believe it is crucial to get students motivated in learning. Once they find the joy in learning, they will continue to research, question, and find answers that will continue into their future. The never-ending pursuit of answers will ultimately lead students to become active citizens in their communities. I don't expect my future students to become artists; however, I expect them to learn life skills and personal growth that they will need in their current and future lives. In order to arm them with these skills, I plan to design and work with students on multiple educational, yet fun and productive, projects.
